Ten cheap-as-chips ways to stay warm this winter
Keeping warm this winter and keeping your energy bill down seems like a tough ask. Here are some ways to help you to keep nice and toasty this winter for a really low cost:
1. Close doors, windows and curtains at night. Did you know that 20% of the heat from a room can be lost by keeping your curtains open.
2. Open the oven door after you've finished cooking.
3. Often there are really big gaps between internal doors and the floor. Make 'door snakes' from old fabric to put under internal doors to keep the heat in.
4. Pop a nice blanket or throw on the back of the sofa so you can throw it over you and snuggle while you watch TV.
5. Cook with chillis and warm yourself from the inside.
6. And on that note, any excuse for a hot toddy or mulled wine! I've got a great mulled wine recipe if anyone wants it.
7. If you have an older house and no carpet, fill gaps between the skirting board and floor boards. Put your hand down near one - you may be surprised how much air is coming up from under the house.
8. Do some exercise in doors. Put on your favourite music and dance around the house.
9. Put insulation foam or strips around windows to seal the gaps
10. Better than dancing by yourself round the house, have a mid winter cocktail party! Get your friends to bring different spirits and all you might have to supply is the mixers! And of course, as a responsible blogger, I need to remind you to make sure there are only sober drivers driving home.
